Axl Kaminski presented a working paper titled "Diagnosing Dangerousness: The Discursive Struggle Over Spoiled Identities in California Board of Parole Hearings" at the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

Associate Professor Orly Clerge published a new paper titled "Ain't I a Migrant?: Global Blackness and the Future of Migration Studies" with co-author Jean Beaman in the International Migration Review. The article argues for the necessity of a global Blackness perspective on global migration, and can be read in full here.

Professor Bob Faris participated in The Museum of Modern Art’s 50th Salon titled "The Age of the Bully" as part of the MoMA Research & Development series. 

Assistant Professor Tina Law recently published a new article on AI in Socius titled “AI Policymaking: An Agenda for Sociological Research.” The article is part of a new Socius special issue on the Sociology of AI.

Jennifer Krebsbach's article, "Increasing Online Attendance Using Insignificantly Impactful Extra Credit as Positive Reinforcement" was recently published in the Journal of Educators Online. The full article can be read here.

Associate Professor Jacob Hibel received a research grant from the Urban Institute for a project titled "What Skills Help Students with Disabilities Thrive?" This research will investigate how the services and supports provided to students with disabilities during their K–12 education relate to their academic and life outcomes in early adulthood, including postsecondary attainment, income, and more. Using linked data from Oregon and the U.S. Census Bureau, the study will evaluate how outcomes vary depending on the services students received and their duration.

Assistant Professor Veronica Lerma has been awarded the 2024-2025 UC Davis Society of Hellman Fellowship. This fellowship provides support for the research of promising Assistant Professors who exhibit potential for great distinction in their research. Congratulations, Veronica! 

Brian Halpin's article, "Subject to Change Without Notice: Mock Schedules and Flexible Employment in the United States" in the Journal Social Problems was reprinted last year in the most widely used text book for the Sociology of Work.

Jennifer Krebsbach and her coauthors won Division 37's Best Poster Award based on their book, "Voices of Foster Youth: Experts on Their Own Lives," at the 2024 APA conference.
