Students who complete a departmental honors thesis may be eligible to graduate with departmental honors distinction.
The UC Davis College of Letters and Science has distinct criteria for awarding honors, high honors and highest honors. Sociology students who satisfy the grade point average requirement for graduation with honors, and who complete the Honors Program of the College of Letters and Science, may be recommended by the Department of Sociology for graduation with high honors or highest honors on the basis of an evaluation of their academic achievements in the major and in the honors project in particular.
Honors
Honors at graduation are awarded to students who have a grade point average in the top percent of the College of Letters and Science, as defined in the UC Davis General Catalog.
High honors and highest honors
The College of Letters and Science reserves high and highest honors for students who have satisfied additional criteria, delineated in the online General Catalog. The student's faculty mentor will review and assess the honors thesis, often in consultation with another faculty member. The quality of the honors thesis work will be the primary determinant for designating high or highest honors at graduation.
